YEEZY 700: THE QUINTESSENTIAL DAD SHOE

A PRODUCT OF LONG-LASTING COLLABORATION

The Yeezy 700 is the fifth sneaker model created by Kanye West for his Yeezy brand. The journey started in 2015 when the rapper/producer joined forces with Adidas to establish his brand and release his own line of sneakers. Following the 750, 350, 950, and 350 V2, the Yeezy 700 made its debut in August 2017.

Unveiled at the Season 5 Yeezy show, the Yeezy 700 was inspired by the "dad shoe" trend, characterized by wide, running-style shoes reminiscent of the sneakers worn by American dads in the '90s. Designed by Ye himself, the Yeezy 700 features a mesh and suede base and is equipped with Adidas' Boost technology in its sole.

THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER CHUNKY SNEAKERS

Initially considered too kitschy by many sneaker enthusiasts, the Yeezy 700's design sparked considerable debate. In stark contrast to the Yeezy 350's architecture, this pair of sneakers drew inspiration from the contours of jet skis, with the Wave Runner moniker being a direct nod to this artistic choice.

Despite the controversy, this chunky sneaker has become one of the most popular trainers in recent years. Available in two versions and several colorways, including Wave Runner, Mauve, Static, and more, the Yeezy 700's silhouette continues to garner attention among male and female sneaker fans.

YEEZY 700 V1, V2, V3

Initially released exclusively on Yeezy Supply for the Yeezy Season 5 collection launch and delivered in November 2017, the first Yeezy 700 Wave Runner OG left a lasting impression on both the fashion world and sneaker aficionados. This dad shoe became a benchmark due to its eye-catching color combination with "acid yellow" laces, material mix, and futuristic sole. Numerous minimalist and effective colorways were released, such as the Yeezy 700 Analog and Yeezy 700 Utility Black. However, visionary Kanye West managed to breathe new life into the design with a second version, the Yeezy 700 V2, unveiled in a minimalist colorway named Static. More technical than its predecessor, it featured a reworked cage resembling the iconic three Adidas stripes in a wave shape. Several colorways were released, including the Yeezy 700 Intertia V2 and Vanta. But Kanye West didn't stop there, surprising the world by releasing a V3 just before the end of 2019.

The Yeezy 700 V3 Azael arrived in a black and cream colorway, suitable for the most understated outfits and appealing to both men and women. Boasting a futuristic and avant-garde design akin to the Yeezy 380, the sneaker showcased features like the glow-in-the-dark creamy white cage and wolf grey color. As promised by Kanye West, the price was lower than previous models, thanks to the integration of older technology like adiPRENE (present in other Yeezys like the Yeezy 500) and EVA components found in the popular Yeezy Slide. Clearly, this silhouette still has a long way to go, leaving us to wonder just how far Kanye West will take it.
