YEEZY 500: A DISTINCTIVE SNEAKER DESIGN
CREATING A LEGEND
In 2017, inspired by the dad shoe trend, Kanye West and Adidas introduced the groundbreaking Yeezy 500 silhouette!
As a prominent figure in the music world, the multi-talented artist ventured into fashion, resulting in numerous successful collaborations with brands like Nike and Louis Vuitton. In 2015, following disputes with Nike, Kanye West chose to establish his own brand in partnership with Adidas: Yeezy.
In its founding year, the burgeoning brand released several models, starting with the Yeezy Boost 750, followed by the Yeezy Boost 350 in versions 1 and 2, and then the Yeezy 950. Over time, the designer became an influential force in the fashion industry. With ultra-limited edition sneakers being launched, demand remained steady, and fans eagerly sought the latest Yeezy silhouettes! More recently, futuristic designs like the Yeezy Boost 380 and the slip-on Yeezy Slide have taken the sneaker market by storm!
YEEZY 500: A RADICAL SNEAKER DESIGN
In this environment, the Yeezy 500 emerged. In 2017, chunky sneakers, also known as dad shoes, were the trend. These broad, 90s-inspired shoes were worn by American "dads." Kanye West drew heavily from this trend when designing the Yeezy 700 and 500 silhouettes, aiming to rival Nike's flagship models. The Yeezy 500 line began with the Blush colorway, its first release. Capturing fans' attention, the designer then expanded the model with additional colorways, including Super Moon Yellow, Utility Black, and more recently, Salt.
Diverging from Adidas' signature Boost sole, the Yeezy 500 is wider and boasts a unique appearance. Initially criticized for its unconventional design, the Yeezy 500 has become a favorite among sneaker enthusiasts, often featuring understated color schemes.
FEATURING ADIPRENE SOLE TECHNOLOGY
Adiprene technology aims to enhance the performance of running athletes, an area where Nike already holds a strong presence. Implemented beneath the heel, Adiprene absorbs shocks generated by shifts in support and stride. This technology is often combined with Adiprene+ for added stability and explosiveness, especially in basketball. In this way, Kanye West and Yeezy maintain their commitment to comfort in their designs. This sole has gained popularity through basketball models stemming from collaborations with Portland's star point guard Damian Lillard and John Wall. More recently, the sole was integrated into the latest Yeezy 700 V3, marking the model's revival. This technology, being more affordable than Boost, enables the offering of comfortable models at a significantly lower price. As evident, Yeezy continually leverages cutting-edge innovations to blend design and comfort in its creations.
