AIR JORDAN 1 LOW: THE LEGENDARY MODEL IN A LOW-CUT VERSION

THE ORIGINS OF THIS NIKE ICON, ESTABLISHED IN 1985

The Air Jordan 1, with its deep roots in hip-hop and sports culture, has a rich and intricate history. Revered by fans and seasoned enthusiasts alike, the Air Jordan 1 has become an essential staple in the sneaker world. Designed by Peter Moore in 1985 for the basketball court, the same year he created the Nike Dunk, the shoe shares similarities in architecture and design with the Air Force 1. As the first pair released by Air Jordan, a brand co-created by Michael Jordan and Nike, the shoe featured the well-known winged ball logo, or "Jordan Wings" as its signature.

Incorporating Nike's Air technology in the sole since 1985, the shoe offers maximum comfort, support, and enhanced ankle protection. Interestingly, the initial Bred version of the silhouette was not favored by Michael Jordan, who found the color choice somewhat suggestive, stating, "They remind me of the devil."

A SELECTION OF AIR JORDAN 1 LOW FOR BOTH WOMEN AND MEN

Although the original 1985 model was a high-top version, the Jumpman brand didn't stop there, developing two additional models. An intermediate version, the Air Jordan 1 Mid, was released in the early 2000s. The well-known Air Jordan 1 High features a high-top construction around the ankle and has seen numerous retro reissues since its debut. Notable examples include the Air Jordan 1 Retro High Royal Toe and the Air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboards 3.0.

The Air Jordan 1 Mid, designed to provide an alternative style while maintaining the original design, has a lower construction with a mid-ankle collar. This version gained popularity in late 2019, particularly with the Fearless pack and the highly sought-after AJ1 Mid Maison Chateau Rouge. The model continues to adopt colorways from 1985.

The Air Jordan 1 Low features a low-cut design, perfect for summer days or those who prefer variety in their sneakers. Jordan's success in offering different versions of the model, catering to various preferences, seasons, and moods, is evident.

AIR JORDAN 1 LOW: GROWING IN POPULARITY

Throughout the 2000s, Jordan primarily focused on its High model, considered the premium offering in the range. Mid and Low versions were abundant in shopping malls, serving as entry-level options and secondary models. In recent years, however, Jordan Brand has diversified its offerings, with more color options for the Air Jordan 3 and the recent sensation, the Air Jordan 4. The change is reflected in the numbers: In 2016, none of the 40 available models were AJ1 Mids, and only 4 were AJ1 Lows. In contrast, by 2019, there were 35 Mids and 17 Lows out of the 80 models launched.

Nike and Jordan's shift has led to more limited editions of the Air Jordan 1 Low, such as the AJ1 Low Paris and the AJ1 Retro Low Travis Scott. Furthermore, retro colorways like Royal Toe, Shattered Backboard, and UNC are also available in low-top versions. This wider selection of colors, shapes, and designs is highly appreciated by the sneaker community.
