NIKE DUNK LOW DISRUPT: THE EVOLUTION OF A CLASSIC BASKETBALL SHOE
STILL IN DEMAND SINCE ITS 1985 LAUNCH
In the early 1980s, Adidas dominated the basketball shoe market, with exclusive contracts with legendary players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, while Converse nearly monopolized the market with its All-Star Chuck Taylor. In 1985, Nike, initially known for running models like the Waffle Trainer and Cortez, decided to enter the basketball arena. The company enlisted footwear designer Peter Moore to create the Nike Dunk. Named after the impressive slam-dunk move, Nike's goal was to support top college basketball players. An exclusive contract was signed between the equipment manufacturer and several universities, including the University of Iowa, Syracuse, St. John, Kentucky, Georgetown, Michigan, and UNLV. The Nike Dunk High "Be True To Your School" pack was introduced, and the Nike Dunk Lowfollowed a few years later.
INTRODUCING THE NIKE DUNK LOW DISRUPT 2
Revealed in early 2022, the latest iteration of the reimagined silhouette returns to its retro features: a flat sole and slim structure that greatly differs from the more pronounced version 1. In terms of design, Nike innovates with a shoe made of 20% recycled materials, part of the eco-friendly Move To Zero initiative aiming to minimize the carbon footprint in Nike model production. The new model debuted in February 2022 with the Malachite colorway, inspired by the gemstone used in ornamental palace decorations and art objects. The Pale Ivory edition followed the model's launch, offering a stark contrast to the previous iteration. More colorways are expected throughout 2022. The Nike Dunk Low Disrupt 2 has a promising future and will likely become a staple in sneaker collections!
